About Vinny

Vinny Spotleson is a Social Studies teacher at Valley High School, after more than a decade working on environmental issues in the west. He is a proud union member of the Clark County Education Association (CCEA).

Spotleson and his family have resided in Assembly District 41 since 2019, when they purchased their home.

Prior to earning teaching credentials, he worked for more than a decade on political and governmental issues for two different Nevada congressional representatives – serving as the Energy and Lands Manager for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and later as the District Director for Rep. Dina Titus. He ran in Assembly District 21 in 2016.

Vinny Spotleson’s History

Before returning to the classroom as a Clark County public school teacher, Spotleson spent nearly a decade leading monumental wins for Nevada.

2013

Closed Down Coal Power Plants

While serving as the Western Regional Climate Organizer for the Sierra Club Toiyabe Chapter, Vinny secured passage of SB123 during the 2013 Nevada Legislative Session to close coal-fired power plants in Nevada.

2014-2018

Protected Over 1 Million Acres of Public Land

Served as the Energy and Lands Manager under the office of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and passed the 2014 Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument Act, which protected thousands of Ice Age fossils in North Las Vegas from urban sprawl. Organized the designation of the 700,000-acre Basin & Range National Monument in 2015 and the 300,000-acre Gold Butte National Monument in 2016 under the Antiquities Act.

2017

Brought Back Rooftop Solar

Organized support for the passage of AB405 during the 2017 Nevada Legislative Session, which included a “Solar Bill of Rights” provision.

2020

Implemented COVID Relief

As the District Director for Congresswoman Dina Titus, Vinny implemented the CARES Act COVID relief bill in 2020 to get constituents stimulus payments, unemployment benefits, and child tax credits.

Vinny’s Accomplishments

Taking on NV Energy and Winning

Among his accomplishments are the successful closure and subsequent transition of the Reid Gardner Coal Plant in Moapa, a notorious source of water and air pollution that is now a solar storage facility.

Protecting our Land

In his work with regional environmental groups, he led successful efforts to protect more than one million acres of public lands through the establishment of Tule Springs, Gold Butte, and the Basin & Range National Monuments.

Delivering Relief for Nevadans

During his time with Rep. Titus, he led her congressional district’s COVID pandemic response – helping constituents secure millions of dollars in critical stimulus checks, small business loans, and unemployment benefits.
