Video: Mental Health Creates School Safety

As a Clark County School District (CCSD) teacher and parent, State Assembly candidate Vinny Spotleson believes that true school safety starts with addressing student well-being.

In a conversation with CCSD School Social Worker Sarah Garcia, Vinny highlights the critical role mental health services play in building safe, supportive learning environments:

Creating Supportive Environments: Proper mental health care helps students move out of “fight-or-flight” mode so they can focus on learning in a culture rooted in safety, kindness, and proactive care.

Expanding Access to On-Campus Wellness Centers: Currently, fewer than 10 out of 380 CCSD schools have dedicated school-based mental health resources and therapy centers. Vinny supports expanding these essential mental wellness centers to every school campus across Nevada.

Preventing Youth Crises: With 1 in 7 students experiencing a mental health crisis, providing accessible resources and mental health professionals at school helps prevent crises before they happen.
